Day 1 -Tuesday 9th September 2014

Flying out.

John and I had an early start to get to the airport by 6am.  No problems and a fairly smooth process of parking and getting checked in etc.  I always struggle to remember where I parked so to help my memory later I parked in the White area, zone 19!

We flew with United Airways to Newark and then a connecting flight to Norfolk, Virginia.  We paid for extra leg room for the transatlantic flight.  I wouldn't be so cruel as to make John squeeze into a normal seat for an 8 hour flight.  We watched in flight movies, I watched ' Hotel Budapest' (rather quirky but entertaining) and 'American Hustle' (a good film about conmen with great soundtrack).  We ate in a diner at the airport and John had a chilli sauce in a bread bowl.  They are great because you can eat the contents and then eat the bowl!

On the flight to Norfolk John and I played Monopoly on his iPad.  John is the unluckiest person ever at Monopoly.... John, don't go into the property business!

We had a long wait for our hire car at the airport.  We expected a car similar to a a Dodge Charger but ended up with a less exciting Toyota saloon.  Never mind it is big enough and will do the job.  We didn't have too much of a problem getting to Duck.  It took about 90 minutes, mostly in the dark so we didn't see too much.  It feels weird driving in America but I will quickly get used to it.

We arrived at Becka's house around 8.30pm (it would have been 1.30am back home).  It was great to see her.  She looks really well.  The house is nice but we didn't see the area because it was dark.  She made us tacos and enchiladas and then had an early night.  We all had separate rooms because her housemates have all left after the summer season.

Sorry no photos so far.  I will try and get some for tomorrow's blog.
